Karelia Aviation Museum is located at the Lappeenranta Airport.  The museum is maintained by the Aviation Museum Association of South-East Finland (K-SIMY).

 

 

Exhibitions

Karelia Aviation Museum is open to the public during the summer season, May and September, only by prior appointment. The museum consists of three exhibition halls. Exhibitions include aeroplanes, a helicopter, aviation engines, and other aviation-related items. Some of the key exhibits include plane wrecks from air combat, weapons, scale models and flight equipment.

The main exhibition showcases fighter planes: Nieuport 11/17, Folland Gnat Mk.1, Fouga CM 170 Magister, Saab 35 Draken, MiG-21bis. A trainer plane: Saab 91D Safir.  Helicopters: Mil Mi-4 (body) Mil Mi-8T. Jet engines of aeroplanes and helicopters.  War wrecks: parts of planes, engines and pilot equipment retrieved from lakes and bogs.

In addition, there are scale models and dioramas, along with other artefacts and equipment related to the history of aviation.

 

Themes of the temporary exhibition have included war wrecks, the history of Lappeenranta Airport, and aviation technology.
